Wolfburn King Charles III Coronation is an exclusive commemorative single malt released in May 2023 to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty. Limited to just 600 bottles, this unpeated expression was aged for over seven years in first-fill bourbon barrels and bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.8% ABV without chill-filtration or added color. Inspired by a private distillery tasting enjoyed by the King in 2019, it emulates his preferred flavor profile, opening with sweet aromas of spring blossoms, poached stone fruits, and biscuity malt. The rich palate presents layers of fruit cake, dates, dark chocolate, and warming spices like cardamom and cinnamon, leading to a long finish of creamy vanilla, maple, and toasted caramel.
Distillery Heritage
Wolfburn distillery, the most northerly on the Scottish mainland, is nestled in the town of Thurso. Founded in 1821 by William Smith, the original distillery operated for around 30 years before its closure. The current Wolfburn distillery, established in January 2013, stands just 350 metres from the ruins of its predecessor, continuing the legacy of exceptional whisky craftsmanship.
Wolfburn King Charles III Coronation Whisky is a limited Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky released in 2023 to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III. This special Wolfburn expression is presented in a 70cl bottle at a powerful 57.8% ABV, bottled at cask strength.
The whisky was created following a 2019 visit by the then Prince Charles to Wolfburn Distillery, where he participated in a private tasting. The expression was designed in the style of a whisky he particularly enjoyed during that visit.
Limited Wolfburn Coronation Release
Only 600 bottles of this commemorative release were produced, making it a distinctive addition to collections focused on limited-edition Scotch whisky and royal commemorative bottlings.
First-Fill Bourbon Barrel Maturation
The whisky is an unpeated Highland Single Malt matured for just over seven years in first-fill bourbon barrels. It was bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.8% ABV, without chill filtration or artificial colouring.
